Language is for communicating

Spanish is learned by using it. At Live The South, our courses are designed to help you speak, interact and gain confidence in real situations — not to memorise rules or complete endless exercises.  Our communicative Spanish courses take place in Écija, an authentic Andalusian town with very little foreign tourism.  Outside the classroom, Spanish is the only language you'll hear and use - which is exactly what makes progress possible.

How the course works

  • 15 hours of Spanish lessons per week
  • Monday to Friday, mornings only
  • 3 hours per day split into 2 lessons:
  1. 09:15–10:45
  2. 11:00–12:30

Courses run in small groups (maximum 12 students), although you can expect groups to be much smaller at the beginning of the project.

The minimum stay is one week, allowing you to fit the course around your travel plans.

What you can expect

After one week, most students notice:

  • increased confidence when speaking
  • less fear of making mistakes
  • greater ease in everyday situations

After two weeks, students usually experience:

  • stronger confidence
  • broader vocabulary
  • greater fluency and spontaneity

Many are surprised by how much they can say without having “studied” in a traditional sense.

What happens in the classroom

Our lessons are provided in the target language, are highly interactive, and designed to get you speaking from the very first day.

  • Around 80% of class time is spent speaking and interacting

  • About 20% is focused on explanation and clarification

  • No textbook is used

Correction is handled carefully and constructively. During activities, the teacher pauses to give group feedback without singling out individual students. The activity then continues immediately, giving you the chance to apply what you’ve just learned straight away.

This approach helps you improve while keeping confidence high and anxiety low.

Levels and groups

Students are placed in groups according to level:

  • Absolute beginner (pre-A1)

  • A1–A2

  • A2–B1

  • B1-B2

Your level is confirmed on arrival to ensure everyone feels comfortable and appropriately challenged. As Live The South grows, more levels will be added.

Beginner

Let go of your fears and enjoy expressing yourself in Spanish!  Our supportive and dynamic lessons get you speaking from day one.  With plenty of practice in the classroom, you'll feel more confident when you use your Spanish around town.

Intermediate

So you know your way around an ñ - good for you!  Our intermediate lessons will reinforce your vocabulary and allow you to use it in a variety of contexts.  You'll love getting to meet Spaniards and taking part in our activities programme.

Closed groups

If you want to come over as a group with no other learners joining you in the classroom, please contact us and we will inform you of the options available.  This is a popular choice for school trips.

  • are preparing for an official exam

  • need a certified or accredited academic programme

  • Classes take place in the morning

  • Lessons are held at my private language school in C/Garcilopez, located in the historic centre of Écija

  • The school is set in a charming listed building with a traditional Andalusian patio and arches

  • Classrooms are fully equipped and air-conditioned
